The Maryland Guide • 4-20-23 THURSDAY, APRIL 20, 2023 AT 6 PM-8 PM Poetry Open Mic Night - Talbot County Free Library Join us for this community-minded celebration of Poetry Month at the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library. All are welcome to bring a found poem or one of your own to share and/or settle into the space to listen. Spoken word poetry is shared out loud and often carries with it the voice of the speaker, inspiring community consideration. We will each have the oppor tunity to contribute a few words to the creation of a spoken word poem at the end of the gathering. We will weave our words into a unique expression of the evening. Enjoy being par t of an evening of poetry held in a gentle, friendly, and inclusive space with reverence for the dignity of each person. SATURDAY, APRIL 22, 2023 AT 10 AM Delaware Defense Day at For t Miles On May 8, 1945, the Allies declared victory in Europe in World War II. For t Miles will celebrate the victory in our annual living history event. See firing demonstrations, learn about garrison life at For t Miles, listen to guest speakers, hear live music and much more. The For t Miles Museum will be open for $5 per person. SATURDAY, APRIL 22, 2023 AT 6 PM Beginner Birding Hike at Killens Pond Join naturalists on a beginner birding hike to look for birds returning to the park for summer. The hike will star t at the nature center and be about 1.5 miles. Binoculars are recommended, but a few pairs will be available to borrow. Preregistration required. SATURDAY, APRIL 22, 2023, 2023 AT 8 PM-10:30 PM Haunted Histories Paranormal Investigation The Lewes Historical Society Haunted Histories echo through time and Lewes is full of these eerie accounts. On this two-hour guided investigation, Lewes Historical Society and First State Paranormal Investigations invite you to hear the true tales of long-ago residents. This educational experience with a ghostly twist is not to be missed! The tour depar ts from the LHS Historic Main Campus at 110 Shipcarpenter Street. Flashlights are recommended. Personal paranormal equipment is welcome but not needed, equipment will be provided to share. NOTE: Due to the intimate nature of this tour, registration is limited - get your tickets now! Ages 13+. SUNDAY, APRIL 23 AT 1:00 PM Habitat Hikes: Magnificent Microhabitats at Killens Pond Not all habitats have to be huge-some can be small, or even microscopic! Join us to learn what makes a microhabitat and how organisms survive there. We will be doing log rolls and looking under rocks, so be prepared to get a little dir ty! Free with paid park entry. FRIDAY, APRIL 28, 2023 AT 8 AM-APRIL 30 AT 5 PM Maryland International Kite Expo 2023 (MIKE) 511 N. Boardwalk, Ocean City, MD. The MIKE 2023 will feature three fun filled days of kite flying on the beach in Ocean City. Throughout the festival, there will be exhibitions and demonstrations including stunt and power kite lessons, free kite games, bubble ar ts, lights-on-kites night fly and much more! The festival will showcase some of the best kites and kite flyers from the USA and world. Kites of all shapes and sizes will be on display including some huge character and theme-based kites & ground displays. Kite-fliers will demonstrate their creativity and ar tistry flying their own skillfully designed & crafted kites. Bring your family for several days of good old fashion kite flying. Stroll the beach and boardwalk as a spectator enjoying the colorful sky and ground displays or fly your own kite(s). Remember when we say “Go Fly a Kite”, we mean it! SATURDAY, APRIL 29, 2023 AT 9 AM-5 PM The Bug & Bud Festival 2023 10 South Walnut Street, Milford, DE 19963 The 2023 Bug & Bud Festival is Downtown Milford's Spring Arbor Day Festival celebrating ladybugs and trees. The event includes a pizza eating contest, craft & food vendors, a kids zone, preview of the Riverwalk Farmers Market Vendors, paddle boats on the river near Arena's Restaurant and a costumed walking parade of ladybugs and trees for adults, kids and their pets! Prizes are awarded for best costumes.
