The G uid e • 4 - 1 9 - 2 3 Roy Brooks Lare of Federalsburg passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Tidal Health in Salisbury, Maryland. He was 78. He was born on November 28, 1944 in Milford, Delaware, the son of the late James Arthur Lare and Hilda Mae Pritchett Lare Willin. Roy graduated from Colonel Richardson High School with the class of 1962. He later started to apprentice as a barber for Bill Johnson. After his education, Roy was drafted into the United States Army in 1969 and proudly served in the 82nd Airborne as a Specialist 4th Class during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, he returned home and married Catherine Johnson on April 9, 1970 and they made their home in Federalsburg. Roy began his life-long career at E.I. DuPont in Seaford. He retired after 39 years of faithful service. Roy’s service to his country was as strong as the service to his community. He was a life member of the Federalsburg VFW Post # 5246 in Federalsburg where he served as present District and Post Surgeon, Junior and Senior Commander, Vice and Quarter Master, Judge, and Advocate. He was a member of the Hurlock American Legion, the International Order of Odd Fellows Federal 35, and served on the Noble Grand and Vice Grand committees. A member of the Seaford Moose Lodge, 25-year member of the DuPont Club where he served as past president, the Federalsburg Historical Society, Seaford Senior Center, and assisted Vets Serving Vets for many years. Roy was a comrade, a friend, and a family man. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Catherine Johnson Lare of Federalsburg; a son Kenneth Lee Lare and his wife Lisa; a daughter Kimberly Lynn Lare-Walden and her husband Gene, Jr. of Seaford; four grandchildren: Christopher Brooks Lare, Laurie Renee Lare, Kaitlyn Leigh Lare, and Alexis Juleen Walden; two great grandchildren: Jameson Brooks Lare and Zoey Grace Miller; two siblings: Barbara Jean Lare Patrick and Linda Lare-Jackson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Cindy Lee Willin-Nalley, Curtis Willin, Randy Dale Willin, and Connie Lare-Pellam. A funeral service date is to be determined.
